Journey of Hope – Day 36

Day: 36 – Longview, TX

Today we woke up and got ready go to our super close century day. 99.7 mile day.

We got a police escort out of the hotel and they took us about 15 miles out of the city. Scott and I rode as a duo team. He was not feeling to well though.. At the 25 mile crew stop, he threw up and was racked for the day. I had to wait about 20-30 minutes for the other 2 man group to join.

I played with a crawdad on the side of the road for awhile. Lo and behold the second pace line group came and it was Peter and Zack! We rode until we got racked for time and got sent to our sponsored lunch!

We all had a delicious burger and then headed on. Sadly, After less then a mile, we hit a really bad area filled with gravel. zach and I made it through, but Peter took a spill. He ended up being ok, but his helmet was obliterated completely. He got racked for safety reasons and we continued on. After losing two guys and getting 3 flats, we finally made it to our lodging at Fairfield Inn. We showered and I took a nap until we headed to our sponsor dinner. When we arrived at the home that our sponsors had, I was taken back by how beautiful all the home visits have been. They were an organization that built bikes for people with different disabilities. We got to see a demo bike that they created. It was cool going there and sharing time with the staff. They have been sponsoring us for over 18 years!!
We all played in the pool and had a relaxing time. I also got an alert about a newsletter I was featured in!!!
